Know your compound

What is L-Glutathione?

L-Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and it is the most abundant antioxidant inside living cells. It carries one structural peculiarity worth noting: the glutamate is joined through its side-chain carboxyl rather than the usual alpha-carbon linkage, a gamma-peptide bond that makes the molecule resistant to ordinary peptidases.

Its function in the redox literature comes from the cysteine thiol, which cycles between reduced glutathione and the oxidised disulphide dimer. The ratio between those two forms is one of the standard measures of oxidative state in cell biology, which is why the compound appears throughout experimental redox work.

Supplied as a lyophilized powder for laboratory research use only, with a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis.

  • γ-isopeptideThe Glu→Cys bond forms from glutamate’s side-chain γ-carboxyl, not the α-carboxyl, so Glu keeps a free α-amino and α-carboxyl. Only the Cys→Gly bond is a standard peptide bond.

What the literature examines

Studied pathways

Summaries of what published research has investigated. Preclinical unless stated otherwise — not claims about this product.

01

Thiol redox cycling

The cysteine thiol cycles between reduced and oxidised forms; the ratio is a standard laboratory measure of oxidative state.

02

Gamma-peptide linkage

The unusual side-chain bond to glutamate confers resistance to standard peptidase cleavage.

03

Enzyme cofactor

Serves as substrate for glutathione peroxidases and S-transferases in detoxification pathways.

Questions

L-Glutathione FAQ

Is L-Glutathione approved by the FDA?

No. L-Glutathione is not an FDA-approved drug and is not approved for human or veterinary use. It is supplied exclusively as a research material for laboratory use, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Does this lot come with a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Every lot is assayed by an independent U.S. laboratory for purity and identity, and the certificate for the lot you receive is published in our COA library — you can read it before you order.

How is purity determined?

Purity is quantified by reverse-phase HPLC against a reference standard, and identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry. Both results appear on the lot certificate.

How should this be stored?

Lyophilized material is typically stored cold and protected from light. Handling and storage are the responsibility of the receiving laboratory; refer to the lot documentation for specifics.

How does the buy-one-get-one offer work?

Every second vial is free, sitewide and automatically. Add two vials and you pay for one; add six and you pay for three. Compounds can be mixed, there is no code, and there is no limit.

When will my order ship?

Orders are processed promptly and shipped with tracking. Free US shipping applies over $100; Priority shipping is $8.95 otherwise.
