Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide built from the ACTH(4-7) fragment — Met-Glu-His-Phe — extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. Crucially, the parent fragment was selected because it lacks the corticotropic activity of full adrenocorticotropic hormone, so the molecule is studied for neurochemical rather than hormonal effects.
