Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid acetylated peptide originally isolated from thymic tissue, the organ where T lymphocytes mature. It is a distinct molecule from thymosin beta-4 (the parent of TB-500) — the shared "thymosin" name reflects the tissue they were isolated from, not a structural relationship.
Published research examines the peptide in relation to T-cell maturation and innate immune signalling, particularly Toll-like receptor pathways in dendritic cells.
